Outdoor Activities (Always Free)
- Balboa Park — 1,200 acres of gardens, trails, and architecture. The park itself is free; some museums charge admission but many have free days.
- Torrey Pines State Reserve — Stunning coastal hiking trails above the ocean. Free to hike (parking is $20 but street parking is available nearby).
- La Jolla Cove — Watch sea lions, explore tide pools, and take in the views. Completely free.
- Sunset Cliffs — The best sunset spot in San Diego, hands down. Bring a blanket and watch the show.
- Mission Bay Park — 4,600 acres of waterfront park with paths, playgrounds, and picnic areas.
- Cabrillo National Monument — Free with a National Parks pass, otherwise $20/vehicle. Whale watching in winter.
Free Museum Days
Balboa Park museums offer Free Tuesdays on a rotating schedule (residents only). The Museum of Us, San Diego Air & Space Museum, Fleet Science Center, and others each have designated free days throughout the month.
